Checking out a track
Checking out a track tells your collaborators you're working on it. It's a signal, not a lock — here's how checkout, check-in, expiration, and takeovers work.
What checkout is (and isn't)
Checking out a track is how you raise your hand and say "I've got this one." It puts your name on the track so collaborators know you're actively working on it.
Note: checkout is a signal only — it does not lock the track. Anyone can still upload versions, post, or change a checked-out track; Dosido doesn't stop them. Checkout exists so your team can coordinate by convention, not by enforcement.
That's the whole point: a low-friction way to keep two people from unknowingly working the same track at the same time.
Checking out and checking in
To check out a track, click Check out next to its status on the track's page. You'll be asked "What are you planning to work on?" — a short message is required, and you can @-mention collaborators in it.
When you're done, click Check in and answer "What did you accomplish?" — again a quick message, with @-mentions if you want. The track is now free.
Any project member can check out a track. Only the person who checked it out can check it back in.
Where checkout shows up
- A banner under the header on the track's page — [Name] has this checked out, or You have this checked out if it's yours — with when it was checked out.
- The track's Feed, where the checkout and check-in messages appear.
- On a playlist's status board, the holder's avatar in the corner of the track's card — hover it to see "[name] is working on this".
- On the Tracks page, tracks you have checked out are tinted.
When checkouts expire
Checkouts expire on their own, normally after 7 days. When one expires, it clears automatically and the person who had it gets a notification. Nothing else happens — the track was never locked, so there's nothing to unwind.
Tip: expiration is just a safety net for when someone forgets to check in. Don't rely on it — check in when you're done so collaborators get the signal right away.
Taking over
If someone has a track checked out but you need to pick it up — they're offline, they forgot to check in, plans changed — click Check out anyway. Dosido shows who has it, since when, and what they said they were working on. Add your own message and click Take over, and the checkout transfers to you. The person you took it from is notified, along with the rest of the project.
Any project member can take over a checkout. There's never more than one checkout on a track at a time.
Notifications
Checkout activity notifies your collaborators. Each kind can be turned off in your notification settings.
- Check out, check in, and takeover notify everyone else in the project.
- An expired checkout notifies only you, the person who had it.
