Removing someone and leaving a project
Taking someone out of a project, or showing yourself out. Either way, the work stays.
Removing someone
Their tracks, versions, comments, and to-dos all stay with the project — nothing is deleted. You'll just see them marked Former member, with no link back to their profile.
To remove someone, go to the project's Info tab, open the three-dot menu on their row in the People section, and choose Remove from project. To confirm, type the project's name and click Remove from project.
- Owners can remove anyone.
- Admins can remove members, but not other admins — change an admin to member first, then remove them.
- Members can't remove anybody.
- Nobody can remove the project's owner, not even the owner.
Any track they had checked out is released right away, so nobody's stuck waiting on it. Pending invitations they'd sent are revoked too — in practice this only matters when removing an admin, since only owners and admins can invite people in the first place.
They'll get an email letting them know. It doesn't say who removed them — if they think it's a mistake, the email points them to the project's owner. Nobody else in the project is notified.
Inviting them back later is a fresh invitation, same as anyone else's, and they rejoin as a member — whatever role they had before.
Leaving a project
Anyone but the project's owner can leave on their own, from the three-dot menu on their own row in the People section — it says Leave project instead of Remove from project, and you confirm the same way, by typing the project's name. You don't need anyone's permission, and members can do it as readily as admins.
It works the same as being removed: your work stays under your name, marked Former member, and anything you had checked out is released.
The difference is who hears about it: leaving tells the project's owner and admins; a removal only tells the person who was removed.
Leaving takes the project out of the Projects list in your sidebar.
Note: an owner can't leave their own project, because the owner can't be removed by anyone — the two are the same rule.
