Artist names

Every track is credited to an artist name — the name outside listeners see when you share it. Set one default for a whole project, override it on a track or a single version, and it shows up everywhere a listener looks.

What the artist name is

The artist name is the public credit on your music — the name an outside listener sees on a share page and in the Dosido iOS player, right under the track title.

It's separate from producers. Producers are how you credit collaborators inside your project; outside listeners never see them. The artist name is the outward-facing credit. For crediting producers, see Editing, moving, and deleting versions.

By default, every track is credited to your project's artist name, so a project that's all one artist or band never has to think about it again — set it once and you're done.

Setting the project's default artist name

Open your project's Info tab, find the Artist name card, and type a name. It saves as you go.

Until you set one, the card says Not set, and tracks fall back to the project name — so there's always something to show.

Only an owner or admin can set the project's default artist name. Other members see it but can't change it.

Tip: if your whole project is one artist or band, set it here once and every track, share, and playlist is credited correctly with nothing more to do.

Overriding the artist on a single track

When one track needs a different credit — a feature, a guest vocalist, a one-off collaboration — override it on that track.

  1. Open the track.
  2. In the Featured version panel beside the feed (on a phone, under the Info tab), click Edit next to Artist name.
  3. Type the artist for this track and click Save.

That track now shows its own artist everywhere listeners see it; every other track keeps the project default. To go back to the default, open the same editor and click Clear (use project artist).

Any project member can override a track's artist name.

Overriding the artist on a single version

A version can carry its own artist too — say, a remix by someone else. Open the version's page, and under Details, click Artist and type a name. Clear the field and the version goes back to the track's artist. Any project member can do this.

How the artist name is chosen

Dosido picks the artist name in this order — first match wins:

  1. The version's own artist name, if you've set one.
  2. The track's own artist name, if you've set one.
  3. The project's default artist name.
  4. The project name (the always-there fallback).

Change the project default and every track and version you haven't overridden updates to match — instantly, everywhere it's shown.

Where listeners see it

The artist name appears wherever someone outside your project meets your music:

  • On a shared track page, under the title.
  • On a shared playlist — under the now-playing track, and on each track in the list. (On a playlist where every track shares the same artist, the per-track line is hidden — it would just repeat the same name. The moment one track has a different artist, every track shows its own.)
  • In the Dosido iOS app player.

Inside your project, nothing about this changes what you and your collaborators see — your tracks keep their real titles, and each version keeps its producers.

Note: the artist name is display-only. It never changes a track's title or its filename.
