How versions work

Every track in Dosido is a stack of versions. Here's how versions work, where to find them, how the featured one is chosen, and why a track's details follow it.

What's a version

A track isn't a single file — it's a stack of versions. Each version is its own audio file with its own details: a name, notes, producers, key, and BPM. Bounce a new mix and it joins the stack as a new version; the older ones stay put, so nothing is ever lost.

How versions get added

Two ways, both covered in their own guides:

Either way, the new file lands as a new version on the track.

Finding a track's versions

Every track has three places to look at its versions:

  • The Versions panel on the track's page lists its versions: the featured one first, marked with a pin, then the rest newest first. Click a version to open it. On a phone, the panel is under the track's Info tab.
  • The Versions page lists every version in the same order, with its notes, who added it, its length, and when it was added. Play any version from its row. To get there, click the version count under the track's title (for example, 4 versions), or View all → in the Versions panel.
  • A version's own page holds everything about that one version — its name, notes, credits, and details, plus the file it came from. Open it by clicking a version in the panel or a row on the Versions page.

To edit, move, or delete a version, see Editing, moving, and deleting versions.

One version of every track is the featured version — the one that plays when someone hits play on the track, and the one whose details show on the track everywhere you see it.

By default, the featured version is the most recent one. Bounce a new version and it automatically becomes featured. That's usually what you want — the latest mix is the one people should hear first. When it isn't, pin the one you want: see Pinning a featured version.

This is the part worth understanding: a track doesn't carry its own key, BPM, or producers. Those come from its featured version. The key, BPM, producers, and duration you see on a track — in the track list, on the track page, in the player — are all the featured version's details. On the track's page, the panel headed Featured version shows exactly these.

Change which version is featured and all of that flips to match. The two things that don't change are the track title and its status — those live on the track itself, not on any version.
